Also, despite the lurid cover for volume 1, this series is pretty PG-13 for the most part. While I may continue reading this story, I don't think it's worth full retail price for the remaining volumes - I'll keep an eye out for it at thrift stores and the like. That said, in two volumes we've already had the hot springs scene and the school festival scene and the "pretty girl trips and winds up straddling the hero's face just as his love interest walks in" scene.

There's also at least a half-hearted attempt to give her some motivation beyond mere plot requirements for liking him.

Fumizuki does try to change things up a bit: Aoi and Kaoru seem genuinely fond of one another, as opposed to the usual "she catches him in a seemingly-compromising position with another girl and immediately assumes the worst" hijinks. There are dozens of examples in anime and manga, Tenchi Muyo and Love Hina being some of the best-known examples. This series fits squarely into the harem genre - a handful of beautiful women all throwing themselves at a quiet and shy young man. On the one hand, the characters are fun, the artwork and storytelling are fairly well-handled - Fumizuki has a knack for drawing lovely young women. While I generally like this series, I'm not sure if I will continue with it or not. There are dozens of examples in anime and manga, Tenchi Muyo and Love Hina being so Not bad.

The fan service is a little more heavy handed as well but you won’t see me complaining about that. Not high on drama in volume 2 but some cute and funny moments and it’s not quite as cringe because Aoi is as desperate feeing this time around. We are then introduced to two new members of the harem the American Tina and the busty klutz Taeko.Ī bit more slapstick than the last volume we get to see the cast go on a club trip to the mountains and then host a club festival. This volume sees Kaoru and Aoi forced to move into a large western style house where Aoi has to pretend to be the land lady.
